Tour #6 - ANNAPOLIS AND THE NAVAL
ACADEMY - Mon., Nov. 24 - 9:00 AM to 4 PM
Annapolis has been called "the most perfect example of a colonial
town existing today in America." Surprisingly little has changed
since Maryland's capital was laid out in 1695. In fact, Annapolis
has the greatest concentration of 18th- century architecture to be
found anywhere in the United States. In downtown Annapolis, which
is designated a National Historic District, shops and stores occupy
many of the city's landmarks. Others are occupied by people living
grandly in great, 18th-century mansions or modestly in hidden-away
cottages.
Upon arrival in Annapolis, a costumed guide, dressed
in the period of early colonial times, will escort our coach
throughout the streets of this historic area, highlighting many of
the government buildings and homes of many of Maryland's patriots
and signers of the Declaration of Independence.
Our stops will include the State House, the oldest
capital building in the nation, still fulfilling its original
legislative purpose, (dating back to 1695,) the United States
Naval Academy, (the undergraduate college of the US Navy,
established 150 years. The piece de resistance of any visit to
Annapolis is the City Dock, with the Market House and the many
restaurants surrounding the dock area. Here you can make your
selection and indulge yourself in some of Maryland's famous
delicacies. You will have an opportunity to explore the quaint
streets and shops, either with our guide or on your own.
NOTE: PICTURE ID REQUIRED TO ENTER THE NAVAL ACADEMY
